Fossilised Coral
$240.00
Description
Fossil corals form through a process called petrifaction or permineralization. When corals die, their soft tissues decay, leaving behind a hard skeleton primarily composed of calcium carbonate (aragonite or calcite) secreted by the coral polyps. Over time, these skeletons become buried under layers of sediment on the ocean floor. Mineral-rich water percolates through the sediments, depositing minerals such as silica, calcite, or pyrite into the porous structures of the coral skeletons. This gradually replaces the original organic material with rock-forming minerals, preserving the intricate structure of the coral.
This pendant measures 32mm x 17mm.
Pendants are sold with either a sterling silver or leather necklace to make your look your own.
*Necklaces are not sold separately*
